Frequently Asked Questions

  • Prior to any tuition taking place, The OTC senior leadership team first conduct a free, zero-obligation consultation with both student and parent. The purpose of this meeting is to ascertain the student’s educational goal, the timeframe within which we are working, any particular topics of interest, areas of difficulty, preferred learning methodologies and/or learning difficulties that the student may have. Our team then pool all of this information into a bespoke tuition plan unique to the individual student within 24 hours, and send this plan to both student and parent for review. Upon approval of your proposed OTC Tuition Plan, we then make formal introductions between student and the OTC mentor best suited to deliver this course of tuition.

We pride ourselves on our track record of pairing the perfect tutor with each individual student. That said, if for whatever reason you feel the trial session falls below your expectations you will not be charged for the session.

  • The OTC senior leadership team takes a vested interest in the outcomes of each student who we work with. We want our students to achieve their educational goals, be it an A* at A-Level, a place to study at Oxbridge, a UK Medical School offer, or a place at your preferred Secondary School/ Sixth Form. To ensure that our students achieve their goals we monitor the quality of tuition we provide with the utmost diligence.

Firstly, we hire only the best of the best. Our tuition team is made up of the brightest and most experienced Oxbridge mentors. Each prospective tutor goes through a strenuous application and vetting process, including personal interviews with our senior leadership team, to ensure that they are ready to deliver a best-in-class service. All tutors are further monitored to ensure they maintain outstanding performance scores once onboarded to The OTC.

Secondly, our senior leadership team provides round-the-clock support to our tuition team to ensure that they feel supported in their role. If an additional resource, second opinion, or specific piece of information is sought by one of our team, then our management is on hand to provide it, and further support wherever possible.

Thirdly, our senior leadership team act as individual educational strategists to each student whom we work with. Upon joining The OTC, you will be appointed a senior manager, as your individual educational strategist. This means they will be on hand 24/7 to provide any support to ensure that you feel you are receiving a first-class tuition experience and are on track to not only reach, but exceed your educational goals. Our founding partners will regularly check in to discuss how your tuition is progressing, and look to further tailor your bespoke tuition plan wherever necessary.

  • Tuition at The OTC is not only bespoke, but flexible. During the initial consultation, we confirm the availability of our students to conduct sessions and find out the set times/ days of the week which work best for them. We then ensure that the handpicked tutor we appoint is also available and able to conduct regular tutorials during the proposed time slots by the student.

This flexibility extends to non-UK residing students. Our senior leadership team work closely with our OTC mentors to ensure a convenient time to receive regular tuition can be found, irrespective of time zone.

That said, we understand that schedules are busy and ever-changing. Should you be unable to make your typical session, our tutors will always do their utmost to work around your requirements and arrange an alternative time.

  • Yes. OTC Tutors are encouraged to set as much homework as is feasible for each individual student. We expect all OTC students to be self-motivated and driven to excel academically. Independent study is required to ensure our students achieve their educational goals. Of course, our tuition team are on-hand to support with the marking, correcting, and explaining of homework activities set.

Equally, we understand how busy our students are, especially in peak exam and admissions periods. Therefore if you do not have time, or do not wish to be set homework during a certain period, this can of course be arranged.

  • Yes. Following each tutorial you conduct you will receive in-depth written feedback from your tutor outlining what was covered, the areas in which you excelled and any areas of difficulty that you will look to focus on in your subsequent sessions. We find such feedback invaluable in ensuring that each student is on track to achieve their specific educational goal.

  • At The OTC, we are firm believers that you should try before you buy. Unlike other providers, there is zero upfront payment associated with tuition. Instead, you are only billed following a successful trial, and even then, only if you feel as though the trial delivered tangible value-add to you, and you wish to proceed with tuition with The OTC. At this stage, we will arrange a follow-up call with a member of our senior leadership team to work out the most convenient payment plan for you, and an invoice will be sent accordingly.

  • Yes. If your trial session fails to deliver upon The OTC promise of a best-in-class service, right out of the gate, then you will not be charged for the session, no questions asked.

  • We only take larger session bookings pending the success of a trial session and once all parties are fully confident that the right tutor has been appointed and we are ready to support the individual student on their unique educational journey.

At this stage, we are flexible in the number of hours of tuition a student wishes to book. Our recommendation is a minimum of 10 hours of tuition, in order to benefit from both long-term supported growth and our block booking session discount.
