Madeline
Tutor
University of Cambridge - EnglishI’m Madeline and I’m a recent English graduate from the University of Cambridge. I am an experienced tutor, guiding my pupils from GCSE and A-level support to personal statement, entrance test and interview advice. Having achieved a First which placed me in the top 15% in my cohort and A*s throughout all my public exams, I am a confident and enthusiastic mentor with a real passion for her subject. Drawing on my wide knowledge of literature, I enjoy recommending a variety of books to my students which distinguish them from other candidates, impressing the interviewers with note-worthy texts which extend beyond the school curriculum. I encourage my students to develop their own ideas, allowing them to lead the direction of the session, thus giving them an invaluable sense of responsibility over their learning and the confidence to voice their own opinions.

Momoko
Tutor
University of Oxford - EnglishHi, my name is Momoko, and I am a recent graduate in English Literature from the University of Oxford. As an experienced tutor, I love being able to share my passion for literature and history with my students. I combine my practical first-hand knowledge of the IB, GCSE, ELAT, and admissions process with the tutoring ethos that studying literature can benefit students across all subjects by encouraging curiosity and strengthening communication. I have tutored students of all levels of proficiency in English, and strive to make what can be a daunting application process more accessible, and even an opportunity for growth. I am currently finishing my MA in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, with a focus on medieval Latin, and Middle English. I look forward to speaking with you!

Sophie
Tutor
University of Cambridge - EnglishI’m Sophie and I graduated from Cambridge in 2020 with an English degree. Since graduating, I completed a MA at Drama School, and have been working consistently as a professional tutor. As the first person in my family to go to University, and the only student in my year group of 250 to go to Cambridge, I feel extremely passionate about helping other bright students achieve their places at Oxbridge. When applying, I was lucky enough to find a brilliant mentor who was an Oxford alumnus and I am certain that I would not have achieved my Cambridge place without her invaluable help. The most valuable thing my mentor taught me was to believe in my brain so that when I was alone in the interview room, without notes or quotes, I could rely on myself and answer questions analytically, thoughtfully and critically. I feel excited to pass on these skills to other students. I have experience preparing students for ELAT and HAT examinations, teaching interview technique, and I also teach English, History and Philosophy and Ethics at A-Level. I look forward to meeting you!

Eunice
Tutor
University of Cambridge - EnglishHi everyone! I am a recent English graduate from Cambridge University with several years of tutoring experience and experience working in schools. The subjects I offer are English (Literature/Language), History, Geography, Government and Politics, Law and Latin. I also offer general Oxbridge application help and have successfully guided students through the Oxbridge process. I was involved in admissions during my time at Cambridge which has given me a clear understanding of what makes an excellent application. My sessions are clear and curriculum based, aiming to help students feel secure enough in their subject knowledge to be able to apply this knowledge in their exams. I usually start by assessing a student's confidence in their subject knowledge and tailor my resources accordingly.

Kat
Tutor
University of Oxford - EnglishHi! My name is Kat, and I recently graduated from Exeter College, Oxford in May 2021 with a first class degree in English Language and Literature. I am now going on to study at the University of Edinburgh, where I am reading for an MSc in Literature and Society: Enlightenment, Romantic and Victorian. Previously, I achieved A*s in English, History and Classical Civilisation and an A in French at A-Level. I am so excited to help more students uncover the wonders that English has to offer, and support them in their journey towards their educational goals with the OTC!

Iona
Tutor
University of Oxford - EnglishHi, I'm Iona, an English Language and Literature graduate from the University of Oxford. Next year, I will be completing a Master's Course at Oxford in Contemporary Literature. I have consistently achieved the highest possible grades in all my exams: a distinction in my Preliminary Examinations; four A*s at A-Level; eight grade 9s at GCSEs. I also have a wealth of tutoring experience, teaching students from GCSE to University levels, as well as working with students in the Oxbridge admissions process. As part of this, I taught the ELAT, gave advice about personal statements, and created an online lecture series. I find tutoring an extremely rewarding experience and love working with students who share a like-minded enthusiasm for reading, writing, and learning!

Katie
Tutor
University of Cambridge - Education, English, Drama and the ArtsHi! My name is Katie, and I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Education, English, Drama, and the Arts. I have worked as a tutor for over five years, helping students to achieve their potential, whether that may be in Common Entrance exams, GCSEs, A-Levels, Oxbridge interview preparation or something else! Having taken a slightly unconventional route through university, switching from Part I in English to study Part II in Education, I understand that no two students are the same. I focus on the strengths of each specific student to create a learning plan that works for them, ensuring that sessions are enjoyable, constructive, and led by curiosity.

Rosa
Tutor
University of Oxford - EnglishHi! I'm Rosa, a 2nd year English Language and Literature student at the University of Oxford, with A Levels in Spanish, History and English. I am a chatty and relaxed teacher who will put you at ease and ensure that you enjoy your tutoring sessions, in a positive environment where there is no stigma around making mistakes. I have years of experience across a range of different disciplines and levels, so I am used to helping students realise their full potential! I structure my sessions clearly but flexibly, so that students are aware of their goals in each class but can also request to focus on something specific that they struggle with. We typically set out objectives for the session, work through activities and questions depending on the student's aims, and then sum up with a quick quiz to reinforce learning. I am thrilled to be helping students as part of the amazing OTC team!

Olga
Tutor
University of Cambridge - EnglishHi! I’m Olga, a second-year undergraduate reading English at St John’s College in the University of Cambridge. I am an experienced tutor, having worked with students for their GCSEs, A-Levels, and university admissions, including the personal statement, ELAT and interview preparation. Using my love for my subject to help foster confidence and improvement in younger students has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and my students have reviewed me as a positive, helpful tutor who explains things clearly and keeps students engaged, resulting in improvements in grades. The most important part of tutoring for me is to encourage the student to find their own interpretations and learn how to approach what could be an initially intimidating text to have confidence in their analysis, whether this is towards an exam mark scheme or to be able to hold their own in discussion with a university professor at interview! I look forward to continuing to support and guide students through their literature journeys.
-
Felix
Tutor
University of Oxford - EnglishHi! My name is Felix, and I’m a recent English graduate from the University of Oxford. I have worked with a real range of students and subjects as a tutor previously, and recognise that no two students are the same, or in fact learn in the same ways. I am an adaptive tutor and can tailor wildly different shapes from the same learning material to get the best from each and every student. English is uniquely placed at the heart of the humanities, incorporating history, philosophy, and psychology. Perhaps more important still are the analytical and communicative capabilities required to articulate a reading of a text. As such, the skills a student develops studying English will complement their other areas of study enormously. I have experience tutoring in English, Maths, Geography, and History, from Key Stage 3 to 5, in both the UK and abroad. I have also tutored in Oxbridge admissions.
-
Jui
Tutor
University of Oxford - Classics and EnglishHi! I’m Jui and I’m a second year Classics and English student at Brasenose College, Oxford. At A Level, I thoroughly enjoyed studying English Literature (A*), Latin (A*) and Fine Art (A*) at The Henrietta Barnett School. I have extensive tutoring experience in a range of subjects including English Literature and Latin at KS2, 3, and 4. I understand that studying the humanities can seem like a daunting prospect, but I wholeheartedly subscribe to the belief that subjects like these do not ask for some mystical inborn talent, instead opening themselves up when approached with real interest, patience, and a desire to learn. I am passionate about helping people unlock the potential they are capable of through a flexible, tailored approach to tutoring. Through my experience, I am able to craft my lessons to address specific needs and gaps in an engaging, lively way that leaves my students not only competent but also confident in their own academic abilities. I hope to help kindle a lasting zeal for the subjects I love deeply, while forging a strong tutor-student relationship so that the most can be made of these one-to-one tuition sessions. Having gone through the rigorous Oxbridge admissions process myself, followed by experience with the tutorial system in Oxford, I am well-equipped to conduct mock interviews and give advice for going well in the admissions tests (ELAT and CAT).

Ned Ashcroft
Tutor
University of Oxford - HistoryHi everyone, I'm Ned! I'm a passionate and experienced English and History Tutor. I recently graduated from Oxford with a First Class Degree in History, ranking ninth in my subject. I received an 'Exhibition in History' from Somerville College for my first year exams, and a 'Principal's Prize' from Somerville College for my final year exams. I finished school with 12A*s at GCSE, an A** in English A-Level, and As in Maths and History, so I'm really confident providing tuition to students of all age-groups. Along with teaching English and History, I also tutor for the 11+, 13+ and Oxbridge entrance processes, and I also tutor Essay Writing and Creative Writing.

Bianka
Tutor
University of Oxford - Philosophy & TheologyHello, I'm Bianka! I am a final year University of Oxford student reading Philosophy and Theology at Christ Church. I speak Bulgarian fluently (as it's my native language!) and I have achieved a B1 level in French. I am currently an offer holder for the Courtauld Institute's MA History of Art course, which I am excited to be attending from the beginning of September. Having been both a tutor and a tutee in the past, I understand that acknowledging individual differences in learning styles is key and I absolutely believe that it is through resilience and creativity that a tutor's teaching style should be tailored to suit each student. I believe that tutoring is a collaborative effort, meaning that I cultivate active participation and stimulating conversation as a means to encourage an enjoyable way of learning. My favourite thing about tutoring is sharing my own interests with individuals who I then get to see grow their interest in the subject themselves, which is always really rewarding to see! After six years of tutoring experience, I've taught students from as young as 7 years old to as old as university age. I have extensive experience teaching ESL students, GCSE, A-Level and Oxbridge admissions across a range of subjects.

Theo
Tutor
University of Cambridge - PhilosophyHi there! I'm a second year undergraduate currently reading Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. I have a deep passion for academia that stretches across the humanities and STEM subjects, having achieved A*s in Maths, Physics, Politics and Religious Studies at A Level as well as seven 9s and three 8s in a broad range of GCSE subjects. This passion is reflected in my chosen subject of Philosophy, which covers everything from ethics and political philosophy to logical form and the metaphysics of science. I am extremely keen to confer this passion onto my tutees, and to give them the support they need for an application to Oxford or Cambridge.

Daisy
Tutor
University of Oxford - HistoryHello! I'm Daisy, a finalist at Oxford studying History BA (2023). I was awarded an academic grant in my first year by St Catherines College for my essay, and have gained alot of tutoring experience across the years, ranging from online to in person, GSCE to A level. I truly enjoy speaking to students passionate about their degrees, and believe alot can be gained from engaging in debate and inter-disciplinary conversations. I have experience with Personal Statement, Entrance exams, and Interview Preparation for History and English at Oxbridge. Having spoken to many tutors over the last few years I feel I can truly advise on what interviewers are looking for, helping students navigate what can be a rather disorientating process. I am a creative and outgoing person, with a range of interests that I bring to my degree including Art, Film, English and Sociology. I also have experience directing in a student theatre company, where I learnt that building confidence when performing in stressful environments (such as an Oxbridge interview) is key in forming sophisticated arguments, and recalling information on the spot. I look forward to hearing about your interest in the subject!

Ben
Tutor
University of Cambridge - PhilosophyHi everyone, my name is Ben, and I am a recent philosophy graduate from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. I ranked inside the top ten in the philosophy tripos in my final year and achieved the highest mark in the country on my Shakespeare essay in my English Literature A-Level. I am a charismatic, friendly, and patient tutor, who believes that the best tutors are those who instil a passion for their subject in their students. I feel privileged to have had an education at one of the best universities in the world and have extended that opportunity to others with my years of experience tutoring students throughout the Cambridge admissions process. Besides Cambridge admissions, I have experience not just tutoring but working in schools with KS3 and GCSE students in a range of subjects – but feel most comfortable tutoring English and Philosophy. I have also worked with several A-Level students. I am a thorough believer that every student has different needs, and tailor my tutoring accordingly. I also have extensive experience working with students who have special educational needs. I look forwards to meeting you soon and sharing the OTC’s love for knowledge.
