Classics Tutors

  • Olivia

    Tutor
University of Oxford - Classics and Oriental Studies

Hi, my name is Lizzie and I have recently graduated with a degree in Classics and Oriental Studies (Arabic) at Magdalen College, Oxford. I studied Latin, Maths, and Spanish at A Level, achieving 3 A*s, and I have extensive experience tutoring and teaching at both primary and secondary level. I really work hard to get to know every pupil’s individual needs and make sure that everyone knows the goals we are aiming to hit: I know how helpful and beneficial it is to understand where we’re going at each stage. I also aim to make every session as enjoyable as possible, as this makes it so much more rewarding for everyone involved. My degree was incredibly broad, covering languages, history, literature, philosophy, and historical linguistics (and more!), so I can help with a broad range of topics and provide recommendations for any subjects you would like to delve into further. Having gone through the Oxford admissions process myself, I know what Oxbridge are looking for, right from personal statements all the way to interviews. I had a fantastic time at Oxford and really look forward to helping others have fun during the process and get ready for university!

  • Billy

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Classics

Hi, my name is Billy. I graduated with a First Class degree in Classics from the University of Oxford, and I am currently a Gray’s Inn scholar studying the law conversion course in London. I am a confident and encouraging mentor who loves to engage with students on new ideas and to help develop their wider understanding of the classical world. I structure my tutorials in a flexible way to best suit the needs of each individual pupil, taking into account their stage of learning and interests to ensure our session is as interesting, rewarding, and effective as possible. I have previously tutored prospective applicants through Oxbridge admissions with mock interviews, helping students to feel confident in showing what they are capable of on the day. I look forward to sharing ideas and a love of classics with you, and to helping you realise your academic potential!

  • Jui

    Tutor
University of Oxford - Classics and English

Hi! I’m Jui and I’m a second year Classics and English student at Brasenose College, Oxford. At A Level, I thoroughly enjoyed studying English Literature (A*), Latin (A*) and Fine Art (A*) at The Henrietta Barnett School. I have extensive tutoring experience in a range of subjects including English Literature and Latin at KS2, 3, and 4. I understand that studying the humanities can seem like a daunting prospect, but I wholeheartedly subscribe to the belief that subjects like these do not ask for some mystical inborn talent, instead opening themselves up when approached with real interest, patience, and a desire to learn. I am passionate about helping people unlock the potential they are capable of through a flexible, tailored approach to tutoring. Through my experience, I am able to craft my lessons to address specific needs and gaps in an engaging, lively way that leaves my students not only competent but also confident in their own academic abilities. I hope to help kindle a lasting zeal for the subjects I love deeply, while forging a strong tutor-student relationship so that the most can be made of these one-to-one tuition sessions. Having gone through the rigorous Oxbridge admissions process myself, followed by experience with the tutorial system in Oxford, I am well-equipped to conduct mock interviews and give advice for going well in the admissions tests (ELAT and CAT).

  • Charlie

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Classics

Hi, I’m Charlie, a third year Classics student at Exeter College, Oxford. I have been learning Latin for eleven years and Ancient Greek for nine. In my recent second year exams at Oxford I was awarded an exhibition for my overall performance. As a prefect at school I took on pastoral responsibilities and I was also involved with teaching younger pupils as a leader in the CCF. More recently over the last couple of years I have been helping various friends and younger pupils from my school with advice for their Oxbridge interviews, personal statements and aptitude tests. I try to find what they are most interested in and also what most concerns them to really personalise the support I can give. I have really enjoyed my time reading Classics at Oxford and look forward to helping you in your studies.

  • Tom

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Classics

Hello! I’m Tom, a Classics undergraduate at the University of Oxford. I studied Latin, Ancient Greek and English at Pre-U (A-level equivalent). I achieved an exhibition in my ‘Moderations’ (Halfway Exams) and I am currently in my fourth year working towards my Finals. My goal as a tutor is to help build students’ confidence within this multi-disciplinary subject, and to work in partnership with the student to offer a personalised programme on the more specific grammar and syntax elements of Classics. In addition, I am able to advise on all aspects of application/interview practice, and I have spent several years helping prospective applicants on just this area! I appreciate how daunting some elements of Classics can be and having studied the subject for over ten years, I bring energy and practical, first-hand experience to all my teaching. I am so excited to be a part of the OTC Setup and to help aspiring Oxbridge students reach their full potential!
