Chemistry Tutors

  • Bryher

    Tutor
University of Cambridge - Natural Sciences

Hi, I‘m Bryher, a 2nd year Natural scientist at Clare college, Cambridge. I am specialising in Chemistry, although my experience in both physical and biological sciences at Cambridge allows me to give a broader range of tutoring experience that is necessary for natural sciences admissions process. Prior to Cambridge, I did Physics, Chemistry, Maths and further Maths at A level - achieving A*s in all of them. Having three years of experience tutoring 11-17 year olds maths and science at GCSE and A level, I understand that no tutoring technique will work for all students - there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to learning. Therefore, I am passionate about helping each unique student achieve their maximum potential in a way that suits them best and hopefully they will fall in love with their subject in the process.

  • Harish

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Chemistry

Hi, my name is Harish, and I'm currently a fourth-year chemist at the University of Oxford. I have extensive tutoring experience in chemistry and maths. This has included working as part of A-Level and GCSE support programmes, aiming to expedite academic progression. Elsewhere, I have tutored privately with Active TT, working with several individuals to offer personalised assistance in maths and sciences. I believe that tutoring is most effective when focused on the needs of the individual rather than a rigid syllabus - this may mean reviewing and testing students on concepts they had been doing recently in class to consolidate their understanding, and addressing challenging questions that students have struggled with in exams. I believe that with the support of an enthusiastic tutor like myself, education should not be a chore but a pleasure!

  • Matthew

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Biochemistry

Hi, I’m Matthew, and I’m a 4th year Biochemist at Exeter College, University of Oxford, completing my Master’s degree in the Nuffield department of experimental medicine. This is a computational project seeking to predict which mutations in Mycobacterium tuberculosis will lead to antibiotic resistance against 1st line drugs such as Isoniazid. At A-Level, I achieved A* grades in Chemistry, Biology, Maths, and Physics, and have experience tutoring A-Level Chemistry and Biology students, alongside Science and Maths GCSE students, for the past 3 years. I am passionate about equity in education, and have also worked as a volunteer mentor with several outreach schemes helping students with Oxbridge applications and interviews. Alongside academics, I am a blues swimmer and have played an active role in the Oxford sporting community as the Oxford University Swimming Club Men’s Captain. I look forward to meeting you soon!

  • Will

    Tutor
University of Oxford - Materials Science

Hi, I'm Will! I am a first-class Materials Science MEng graduate from the University of Oxford and I am currently a Materials Science PhD researcher at TU Berlin. Whilst at Oxford, I was selected and trained as an Undergraduate Admissions & Outreach Ambassador for the university, meaning that I have an in-depth understanding of the Oxbridge admissions process, including specifics of the key criteria that tutors look for in personal statements and in interviews. I am a friendly and enthusiastic tutor who is driven to help all of my students achieve their full potential. By understanding my students' passions and interests, I guide them through the application process by providing comprehensive (and highly tailored) personal statement support and focused Oxbridge-style interview preparation. I have been a private tutor for over 5 years and have extensive experience mentoring successful Oxbridge applications for the physical sciences including Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics & Natural Sciences.

  • Rebecca

    Tutor
University of Cambridge - Biological Natural Sciences

Hi! My name is Rebecca, and I am a recent graduate of the University of Cambridge, having completed a BA in Natural Sciences. I tutor biology up to A-level and can provide support and advice for university applications. I have volunteered at a secondary school in East London to help teach several classes of students. I have also weekly tutored maths and science to multiple year groups in my secondary school and aimed to help students both understand the material from the course specification and explore the subjects beyond the specification. Having been through both the general university and Oxbridge application processes, I understand how unnerving and confusing it can be. This can particularly affect students from a state school and/or students with a learning difficulty such as myself. I believe it is important that every student, no matter their background, feels supported through all stages of their application.

  • Raphaella

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Medicine

Hi, my name is Raphaella, and I have just finished my third year of Medicine at the University of Oxford. My previous tutoring experience involves working as a volunteer tutor at the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative, a student-led project aiming to support disadvantaged pupils who would not otherwise be able to access private tutoring. Similarly, I have worked as a mock interviewer at STEP in OxMed, for prospective Oxford medical students from state school backgrounds. I also have experience tutoring at Hilltop Academy Oxfordshire, tutoring GCSE classes of up to 5 students and advising on medical school admissions. In particular, we focused on improving personal statements, and teaching students how best to express themselves and describe their achievements within strict character limits. I’m really excited to meet you all and share my academic insights, hopefully guiding you towards your educational goals!

  • Josie

    Tutor
University of Cambridge - Biological Natural Sciences

Hi, I am Josie and I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First Class degree in Biological Natural Sciences, ranking fourth overall in my cohort. I am an experienced and super friendly tutor with over 5 years of experience in tutoring Biology, Chemistry and Maths across a range of age groups, abilities, and qualifications. I achieved straight A*s at A-level in the aforementioned subjects, so am well aware of all the common pitfalls students have the propensity to fall into, as well as how best to avoid them. I am always enthusiastic about meeting new students and helping them deepen their understanding of STEM, because I feel that confusion around science and maths often prevents students from being able to ask fascinating questions and achieve their full potential. I am really excited to share my wealth of experience and educational insights as part of the young, dynamic OTC team!

  • Bea

    Tutor
    University of Oxford - Medicine

Hi everyone! I’m Bea, and I’m currently reading medicine at Worcester College, Oxford, specialising in immunology. I studied all three sciences and maths during sixth form, achieving the top grades in all of them. At GCSE, I received 12A*s. I have prior experience tutoring all three of these subjects at GCSE level, and have tutored biology and chemistry at A level to numerous students, both in person and online. In addition, I have also been able to provide help to medical students preparing to take the BMAT examination, and have provided interview preparation to these students as well. In my spare time I love to go horse riding and am on the university's riding team; I also enjoy playing hockey and netball. My tutoring style involves lots of question asking to ensure students are remaining engaged and can demonstrate their understanding, and we will work through the syllabus together to ensure all points have been covered. I think focusing on past exam questions is very important, as this allows refinement of exam technique, so there will be a focus on this.

  • Sophie

    Tutor
University of Oxford - Earth Sciences

My name is Sophie Davis, and I am in my final year of an integrated Masters degree in Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, having studied maths, chemistry, and geography at A-level. I have advised applicants to Oxford Earth Sciences and other Geology degrees regarding personal statements and interview preparation, so I am well aware of how challenging this process can be, and how to make the Oxbridge application more accessible. I also offer tutoring in maths, geography and chemistry. I believe that tutoring can make a huge difference to the academic progress of any individual, allowing the development of a personalised approach which focuses on the weaknesses and goals as the student perceives them. I am so excited to be a member of the OTC, helping students across the world through elite teaching.

  • Tabitha

    Tutor

  • Joe

    Tutor
    University of Cambridge - Astrophysics

Hi everyone I’m Joe! I've just finished four years of studying for a Bachelor's and Master's in Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge. • Vinu

    Tutor
    University of Cambridge - Medicine

Hi I’m Vinu! When I was applying, I did not have good support for my application - my goal is to help students receive the help that I did not, and aim to get all of my students into oxbridge. Generally, the method with which I teach is firstly the topic, and the way of approaching a question, and then I will allow you to approach the question and we will see if you go it right (hopefully you will have!). If not, we will identify where you went wrong, and how you can avoid making this mistake again. Over time, I tailor my tutoring method to how the student learns, to optimise how well the student is learning the content. Lessons typically are 1 hour long. Lessons are for anyone who is practicing UCAT/BMAT/ interview preparation.
